What is Auto
Paint Correction?

Auto paint correction means getting rid of the bad stuff and creating a clean, sharp reflection on your paint surface. This term is commonly used by both professional car detailers and car cleaning enthusiasts worldwide. It describes the process of restoring and rejuvenating the paintwork of a vehicle.

The imperfections we’ll remove in this process include swirl marks and fine scratches, bird dropping etching, acid rain etching, hologramming buffer trails, and random isolated deep scratches (or RIDS). We do this by removing layers of the clear coat on your car until the imperfection is gone.

When correcting paint, our job is to eliminate surface imperfections that dull, oxidize, or haze the surface by reflecting light off in various directions. When paint correction is done well, you can have a mirror shine on certain colors of vehicles.

Once your paint is corrected, make sure to plan for a protection package. Our Paint Protection Film and Ceramic Coating are perfect additions that can protect the investment you put into paint correction.

Why Choose AI AutoWorks

Through regular training in the latest techniques, as well as innovating new techniques, our technicians can transform your paint to a “better than new” condition.

Our 3-Step Process

Step 1

We begin with a quick inspection and conversation. This helps us determine your expectations so we can build an estimate for the process needed to meet your budget and desired outcome.

Step 2

After you drop off your vehicle we will start with the testing phase. We’ll pick an area of your car to run our processes and see if the final product matches with your expectations and estimate given. If you want to stay and watch, feel free. There’s a lot of learning to be done in this stage. If anything is recommended after the testing phase we’ll be in contact to discuss it.

Step 3

Once we’ve communicated with you about the testing phase we’ll move forward with the complete vehicle paint correction. This process usually takes 1-2 days in order to complete most vehicles. We’ll call you when the job is completed.

Correction Levels

When you give your vehicle proper professional paint correction your finish will transform to a truly corrected state without the use of any waxes or glazes that will hide imperfections.  We offer several levels of correction that offer different services and prices. Each level offers a different path to getting your vehicle’s finish as perfect as you want it.

  1. Our process begins with test panels. This lets the customer see a small example of the finished work and it helps us give a more accurate quote for job completion.
  2. Cars are large and they are all different, so it’s very difficult to know exactly what is needed “up front”. Most jobs are quoted very accurately, but as we get into a job there can be surprises that need additional work.

Level 1

Intended primarily for newer vehicles that are needing to look perfect, typically used before applying ceramic pro.

60-70% improvement typical

Level 2

Great balance of budget and expectation for most vehicles, new or used. Often used before coating the vehicle with a ceramic coating to protect from future issues.

70-80% improvement typical and generally removes most swirls

Level 3

Typically intended for vehicles that have seen the road and have more RIDs (random isolated defects) in the paint, and the customer is trying to repair the paint. These defects mean we have to work further into the clear coat to remove the imperfections.

80-90% improvement typical

Wet Sanding

Wet sanding is the most intense process we use when removing defects in paint. It is generally needed on vehicles with severe RIDs where the customer is looking for at least an 80% improvement.

Vehicles with pitting, heavy oxidation, fisheye, or etching are prime candidates for this service. But no need to worry, we test all paints thickness prior so there is no risk in damaging your paint.

Once You Correct It – Protect It

Paint Touch-up

Touching up minor scratches and rock chips is a great way to help in the restoration process without the high cost and often negative side effect from repainting the vehicle… This is especially true when there are only a few areas needing repair.

Different Methods

We custom match the paint color with a clear coat additive for color matching and durability purposes.

We have the unique ability and tools to allow us to do a multi step touch up repair. This would include several repeated steps of filling and sanding the rock chip in order to make the repair extremely smooth which makes it much more of an invisible repair.

Recommendation

After doing repairs we highly recommend the use of a invisible paint protection film to cover the repair and associated panel. There are two major benefits with using a protective film:

  1. The PPF will act as a clear coat, which will make the repair nearly unnoticeable.
  2. It will protect the entire panel from additional damage.
